Questions about the
system
My child is older will it work for me?
The system
has been shown to
work for newborns all the way through toddler age (although some
parents even use the system themselves to help them get
to sleep.) Playing the music
following the enclosed instructions when your child is ready for bed helps calm
them down. As most parents have learned, being ready for bed does not mean
your child wants to go to sleep and children can often be their crankiest and loudest
when they are tired. Using the Songs from Mommy's Heart Baby Sleep
System as part of your nightly routine will help you take a loving
approach in helping your child unwind, leading him or her gently
to sleep.
My child wakes up every 20
or 30 minutes is this normal?
According
to the research we've conducted, the reason newborns and toddlers
get up usually has to do with the fact that like adults they fluctuate between REM(rapid eye movement or light sleep) and NREM(non
rapid eye movement or deep sleep) sleep but their cycles last
less than adults (usually less than an hour after which they fall
out of deep sleep.) They then become aware that they are either
hungry, cold, warm or just not being rocked or alone and this is
when they usually get up. I have a 16 month old that has just
started doing that. I find that the Heartbeat and Cello music effectively masks all ambient sounds
allowing him to sleep uninterrupted.
What else can I do
to help?
A
schedule is very important. I know how hard it is to stick to it, but
the bottom line is that babies have to have a set time to nap, to wake
and to go to sleep. Even though it might be tempting to let them sleep an
extra hour, this will just confuse their sleep "clock" and you might have to
start all over again.
The
Heartbeat and Cello music enhances anything you are doing
now, rocking in a dim room seems to work
for many if their little one hates to be in the crib alone. Some
people have told me that they use the music while
laying in their bed with the baby, while this might work, make
sure that you transition to the crib and not allow him or her to sleep
on your bed all night. In a nutshell, stick to a schedule, feed well before
going to bed, and follow a plan for putting the baby to sleep in his
or her regular sleeping place. Although it
might require doing this a few times in the beginning, you will notice that
with repetition it will take less time for them to fall asleep.
