What is the Songs from Mommy's Heart Baby
Sleep System and how does it work?
Studies conducted by the late Dr. Lee Salk, eminent Child and
Family authority, showed that playing a heartbeat sound recorded from the chest
at a speed of 72 BPM had various positive effects on newborn

preference among mothers in all cultures for holding their infants on the left
side of their chest near the heart. Additional research showed that fathers also
have this tendency and that a similar trend can be seen among gorillas and
chimpanzees. It was Salk's opinion that this was done so the babies could hear
the mother's heart and be soothed by it.
The sound
of a mother's voice... and the quest to find a universal sound.
Along the lines of Salk's research,
in 1996, Dr. Harry Sieratzki, a specialist in neo-natal medicine at London's
Hammersmith Hospital and Professor Bencie Woll,
from the Department of Clinical Communication Studies at City University, London
proposed that holding the baby on the left side frees up its left ear to hear
the mother's voice sending the sound signals to the right side of the brain
where tone, melody and emotion are processed along with cadence and intonation.
In
The Lancet journal, Dr. Sieratzki is quoted as saying "The mother's voice is
known to the infant; her melody is tuned to the infants' needs and responses...
All this originates from a deep-seated maternal instinct..."
While Dr. Sieratzki's research
proposes that the sound of a mother's voice is universally soothing to children
- languages and cultures vary greatly from mother to mother. These elements of
language and cultural intonation are the two biggest challenges faced in trying
